Student Evaluation

Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) is a process that allows students to earn secondary school credits based on knowledge and skills acquired outside of the traditional classroom setting. Prior learning may include formal education, work experience, training programs, independent study, volunteer activities, or other life experiences.

The PLAR process consists of two components:

Challenge Process

The challenge process enables students to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in a specific Grade 10, 11, or 12 course. Through assessments and evaluations, eligible students may earn course credits without completing the full course.

Equivalency Assessment

The equivalency process evaluates academic credentials, transcripts, and coursework completed in other educational systems or jurisdictions. Credits may be granted where previous studies are deemed equivalent to Ontario secondary school curriculum requirements.
